                               "Smokey Mountain" of Nueva Ecija
Text Box: The Barangay Captain of Valle Cruz
The residents beside the dumpsite are only temporarily living in that area, because they earn money in the garbage and the families don't have enough money to have their own home, that's why for the meantime even if it's really hard to live because according to them they have to take the risk of acquiring different diseases for they don't have any place to build their houses and they are not well educated to find a better job. According also to some of the residents, when you live there for a long time everything is just nothing, as if it is a normal life just like the other families living in a clean and well surrounded place. "When you live here for a long time, as if our body is immune in different diseases".

The Barangay Valle Cruz with their Barangay Captain Eduardo Samonte said that the government are helping them to minimize the garbage in the dumpsite, and to lessen the cause of disease. With the cooperation of city government and residents of  Cabanatuan City and Valle Cruz they segregate the garbage and they have some seminar for the families to teach them on how to segregate the garbage, teach them to recycle the garbage and make it useful things in their home. In case of acquiring diseases they also teach everyone in each family to clean their surroundings to prevent the carrier of disease.

Some residents of Barangay Valle Cruz Purok 1-A are helping in segregating non-biodegradable and biodegradable garbage, that's why we cannot force them to go to other place even if they have to suffer their own health.

Last December 30, 2008, they started to close the dumpsite of the Valle Cruz, but they have to close only  75% of the dumpsite, and  for the meantime, the 25% is open to dump the garbage for six months.

The local government officials are looking for a machine to grind the garbage and to make it useful.
