General Santos City lies at the southern part of the Philippines. It is located at 6°7'N 125°10'E. The city was surrounded by the municipalities of Sarangani Province, Maasim, Polomolok and T'boli. 17,489 hectares (32.63% of the city's total land area) are fertile agricultural lands. The city enjoys good weather all year round and generally typhoon free and evenly distributed rainfall. In accordance to the latest census of the NationalStatistics office, the population of the city is 529,542 and with an annual growth rate of 3.53, and placed 7th as the fastest-growing city in the country.
It serves as a financial hub of the SOCCSKSARGEN Growth Region (South Cotabato, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and Gen. Santos) in Mindanao with over 50 banks in operation.
Gensan, as it is dotingly called maintains some of the best support infrastructure in the East ASEAN Growth Area. One of which is the General Santos International Airport. The city's airport serves as a runway capable of handling wide-bodied aircrafts. Another infrastructure that the city proud of is the General Santos City Fish Port Complex (GSCFPC) which is the most modern Fish Port complex in the country and it is accredited with US FDA and EU FDA Standards.
Gensan was surrounded by tuna-rich fishing grounds. Due to the abundance of tuna, General Santos City was hailed has the "Tuna Capital of the Philippines. It has over 85 tuna value-added processors, 7 of the country’s 10 tuna canneries and hundreds of allied services all contributing 61,000 jobs for the city.
