This focus study entitled “Tuna Industry: Source of Income of the Generals” is a narrative about the benefits of Tuna Industry in the daily lives of the “Generals” especially as their source of income. General Santos City is surrounded by tuna-rich fishing grounds including the Moro Gulf, Sulu Sea, Mindanao Sea, and adjacent Celebes Sea. Because of the abundance of tuna, people use their creativity and turn these fresh tuna flesh into different products, such as tuna flakes, sardines, tuna chorizo and other processed foods. Tuna industry does not only help the people in General Santos City but also the government. That’s why the city is celebrating the "Tuna Festival" annually every 5th of September.

The Tuna Industries made the General Santos City as one of the fastest growing cities in the Philippines. With the advent of the operation of General Santos City Fish Port Complex, post harvest technology equipment needed to prolong the shelf-life of Tuna and other species of fish, are made available, thus playing a vital role for trading and other post harvest activities.
