Long time ago, there was a very old man living in Manañoy. One day, two young men from Basco visited the place. They felt so thirsty, so, they decided to ask water from the old man. When they arrived at the old man’s house, the old man was busy cooking. He gave them water. After drinking the water, they stayed there for a while to rest. Then they noticed that the wood used by this old man were the old and ugly yam. To the two young men, it simply means and shows that, the man has lots of this yam that he uses as firewood. They became curious for it was so unbelievable for the old man to do that kind of work. They decided to challenge the old man just to prove themselves if it was really his effort. So, they began challenging him. The old man said, “Fine! Let’s try it my son.” The young men went near him. When the old man clasped his hand, squeezed and rolled the hand including his wrist, the skin and flesh cracked. He pushed it towards the elbow of the young man. All the skin and flesh were scraped down, leaving only the bone bare. When his companion saw what had happened , he felt fear and so he shouted, “IMANAÑOY MANIHAPDI !“ ,as he hurriedly ran away from the place. |
