"Methodology"
We came up with our research and website by making interviews and researches at the Maragondon on rural health center and NSO office, municipal level. We went to the different barangays in Maragondon and conducted interviews with the barangay captains and SK president to get information vital to the website making. The following are the steps we have undertaken:
*data gathering
*interviews
*research
*meeting for collaboration of information gathered
*brain storming
*layout-making
*final drafting
Below is a narrative report of the interviews made.
The team members conducted interviews with the different barangay captains and SK chairman's. From them, we were able to gather information regarding the different projects and activities initiated and promoted by the different barangays that will be beneficial and encouraging both for the in-school and out-of-school youths.
Researches were made from the Rural Health Center where we were given inputs about the status of the population in the various barangays of the municipality of Maragondon. Based on the data collected, we found out that the young population comprise the greater part of Maragondon’s population.
Helpful information was made available for the researching team at the municipal National Statistic Office (NSO). Said information gathered validated the data we were given from the Maragondon Rural Health Center unit.
From the Office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), we were enlightened about their various projects that are designed to meet the emergent, sustainable and complex needs and demands of teenagers in order to deviate their attention from the many ills and vices that are now prevailing in our society and are corrupting their young minds and body to become useful and productive members of the community.
This study hopes to give a simple yet explicit presentation of the proof that the young population of Maragondon is, and will always be a boon for the development and improvement of Maragondon.
Day 1
On October 28, 2008, we were able to Interview Capt. Joel Perio of Barangay Caingin. He was very accommodating and helpful to us. He said that both the School Youth and Out of School Youth comprise the bigger part of the Barangay Caingin Populace. Several projects and activities are focused on the needs of the youth such as Barangay cleanliness drive, sports league and drug information and prevention campaigns to make them stay away from various problems and ills plaguing most teenagers today. The most effective means is involving the Out of School Youth in the barangay cleanliness drive wherein they were productively involved and utilized.
Day 2
Mr. Michael Merlin V. Hernandez, Sangguniang Kabataan Chairman of Brgy. Poblacion informed us in an interview we made last October 29, 2008 about his desire to help and encourage his fellow teenagers to fight against ills and evils of drugs and alcohol addiction through projects, sports development and anti drugs seminar and campaign. First hand information from such seminars will alleviate the rising problem of teenage drug addiction and dependence. Likewise, school notebooks and other materials were given out to assist parents in the said barangay with the needs of the school children.
Barangay captain Alexander Villanueva shared to us his concern and desire to minimize, if not totally eradicate the member of school age children not attending school in his jurisdiction .He is trying to accomplish it by distributing school materials to the needy family to help out in a small way to their problem. He believes that this will somehow make little progress for his barangay endeavors.
Day 3
Knowledge of basic farming is the skills and activities being implemented at barangay Garita-B according to Brgy. Capt. Ruben Hernandez the reason, perhaps, for the said activity was due to the fact that the said barangay is situated along rice fields and paddocks that is very suitable to farming. Capt. Hernandez reiterated that such things will enable the out of School Youth to be productive and responsible to prepare them for future obligation.
Day 4
The interview made with the Barangay captain of Poblacion-B was most interesting because of the on-going project they have initiated for the out of school youth of the said barangay. Barangay captain Lawrence Arca proudly informed us that in order to help young people who are not able to pursue their education, they were given trainings on basic car mechanical repairs and basic driving lesson so they gain certain skills that will give them access to job opportunities. The cleanliness drive against dengue campaign is also given focus where most out-of- school students/teenagers are having active involvement and participation. When teenagers are busy with productive activities, it will ensure the better chance of eliminating drug addiction and alcohol dependency among teenagers in their locality.
Day 5
In an interview made with Mrs. Leodivina A. Hernandez last November 26,2008 we learned about the various programs and activities slated for the out of school youths and those activities already undertaken. We learned that the main source of funding for their activities come from the Dept. of Social Welfare and Employment (DSWD) through the Alay Lakad projects spearheaded by the municipal government, the local government units (LGUs) the provincial and national government and many others.
Last September 17-18, 2008, leadership training seminar was held at Pinagsanhan Elementary School entitled “PYAP It’s Your Time To Lead” aside from this, other seminars such as values formation and gender sensitivity seminars are being offered to raised the moral and spiritual values of the young people especially the out-of-school youth become productive and be able to help in making the town of Maragondon progressive. Another addition to their agenda is the encouragement of the OSY to go back to school for a better chance of success in life. This is made possible through the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program of the DSWD wherein Mr. Ray Climacosa is the teacher. It is now on going at Pantihan 2, 3, 4 and Tulay B. Other livelihood trainings such as perfume, detergent, dishwashing and soap making projects are under taken and initial capital are given for them to start their own small scale business right in their own locality.
According to Mrs. Leodivina A. Hernandez, several activities for the OSY are being programmed. They are Dec-4-5, 2008 regional leadership seminar:
Dec. 6 - 13, 2008 Film Showing and Youth Week Celebration
Dec. 6, 2008 Lantern Contest, Singing Contest
Dec. 7 - 12, 2008 Mall Show SM Bacoor
Dec. 13, 2008 Gala Night and Final Youth Day Celebration
These are all under the initiative and sponsorship of the DSWD and the help and concern of Mr. Mon Anthony Andaman, son of Mayor Monte A. Andaman.
