Before Planting
Choose a
resistance variety. Do not plant the same variety that was infected
in the pervious cropping. A variety resistant to GLH breaks the disease
cycle and reduces tungro incidence.
Matatag rice lines
are resistant against tungro. Unlike IR72 and PSB Rc34 that are
resistant against GLH, Matatag lines have resistance against the virus
that causes tungro. Thus, pesticides use can be greatly reduce with the
use of these lines. Do not plant the same variety for 2-3 seasons to
avoid GLH adaptation and virus mutation.
Determine planting time. Large areas planted in synchrony can avoid
GLH population buildup owing to the limited time that the plants are in
their vulnerable stage to the GLH.
