Story Outline
Our study is
entitled SOS: Stories of Survival which focuses on diseases that are considered
as "silent killers". These diseases include cancer hypertension
and stroke. People can have these diseases by genetic factors or improper
lifestyle. In this study, we featured two deadly diseases, cancer (uterus
and breast) and stroke.
Cancer is a malignant disease caused by the abnormal growth of cells inside
the human body. This abnormality may be due to the effects of carcinogens
such as tobacco, radiation, burnt meat or other chemicals. Most cancer form
a tumor, but others, like leukemia, do not. Cancer causes 13% of all deaths.
During 2007, there are 7.6 million people reported to have died from cancer.
Cancer can affect all animals.
Stroke is a rapidly developing loss of brain functions due to the disturbance
in the blood vessel supplying oxygen to the brain.
Stroke can cause permanent neurological damage complications and death.
The incidence of stroke increases exponentially from 30 years of age. Advanced
age is commonly the significant stroke risk factor.
Prevention is an important public health concern. We can achieve healthier
life by prevention alone. As the saying goes, "better safe than sorry."
