Text Box: HISTORY:

Long time ago, Barangay San Pablo was just simply known as Sitio Simangan. According to the old folks, this barangay was just a part of Barangay Dayhagan then, and only very few reside in this area. All we can see in this place before was hectares upon hectares of sugar cane plantation .

As years passed by, more people started to flock and live in this area mainly, as sugar field workers of the Larrazabal, Torres and Tan families. As the community grows, the people requested to have another barangay for their number of population is enough to form another one. Through Resolution No. 187, Barangay Simangan was finally launched last June 26, 1968, and the first Barangay Chairman was Tenyente Bartolome Moriles, who was unofficially the barangay leader since 1950’s.

But why did they choose “Simangan” as the name of the barangay? In the dialect the word “simangan” means a short cut, or a diversion road or the crossing. This was what Barangay Simangan was to the people living in Barangay Sto. Nino and Barangay Magaswi. This barangay is the shortcut way in going to Barangay Valencia or to Barangay Luna and Dolores. The people used to stop in this area and wait for other vehicles in going to other places. In short, Barangay Simangan was just a convenient place or passage of the people living in remote areas. That was the beginning of having Simangan as its name.
