Eve de Jesus : First lady of Fashion

(July 9, 1914 - May 10, 2005)

Everilda "Eve" Zavalla Perlas-de Jesus was said to be the rich, the famous, and the beautiful. During her time, she was one of the reigning fashion arbiters of the country, designing for debutantes, heiresses and brides, in a distinguished career spanning more than four decades. She placed the name of Santa Rosa in the map of the demanding field of dressmaking through her Eve's Dress Shoppe.

She was an easy choice for the 1st "GAWAD sa MANLILIKHA" recognition, in the BARAKA festival, because she was one of those who made name and difference in terms of creative livelihood.

She was a true daughter of Santa Rosa, eldest of the five children of Mariquita Zavalla y Almeda and Ricardo Perlas; married to Amado de Jesus and a mother to four children.

Interviewed a few years before her demise, she said "my life is centered now around the community and of course the church. I had that excitement during Valera's time, oh, it was real social and glamorous, and we are all exploding with creativity. That's all over now. But I never look back and linger. I look ahead. This is what living is all about anyway."
