Moryo-Moryo: A Ray of Hope
In the midst of darkness, there is hope.
St. Therese Day Care Center—Moryo-Moryo for short—is a
community day care center initiative started by Mrs. Jorgetta Fumero, a teacher of Agusan National High School, over four years ago. Its students
are the children of the people in the community of Upper Doongan, Butuan City, most of whom make a living out
of the heaps and heaps of trash in the city dump.
Mrs. Fumero started this initiative when she saw the untapped potential in these children. She wanted to make a difference in their lives by leading them on the path to a brighter future. She understood that even with the situation the children of Moryo-Moryo were in, education could be their passport to a better tomorrow.
Heaven sent Teacher Mayeth, an educator with a passion for helping the less fortunate, down to join Mrs. Fumero's noble cause. The DSWD helped train Teacher Mayeth to make her more capable of instructing the students-to-be of Moryo-Moryo. Despite the fact that she would receive a meager salary in exchange for her toils, she agreed to begin teaching at the school.
In June of 2006, STDC finally opened its doors to the children of Upper Doongan, and hopefully opened for them the door to a brighter future, too.
Now, we ask that you keep that door open.
This is the official entry of Agusan National High School
for the Doon Po Sa Amin Learning Challenge, a project where teachers and students of Smart Schools Program
(SSP) partner schools are encouraged to use computer and Internet technologies to generate web-based information and educational materials about their respective communities.
