                                  THE MARAGONDON RIVER

One possible solution to the looming crisis of water supply deficiency in the province of Cavite is via utilization of a major water source in the province, the Maragondon River.

The rivers from the different municipalities coverage/conjugate into one big and mighty Maragondon River whose volume and capacity can daily provide potable, safe and sufficient water to the eleven municipalities of the Cavite Province that are included in the areas that will benefit from the development and implementation of this study.

Coastal Resources

Maragondon River is still a healthy habitat for marine life such as fish, shrimp and seaweeds. Fishing in Maragondon River is limited in scope, as the fishery resources of the municipality are not yet fully tapped. Fish species include mackerel, nememterids, grouper, squid, tuna and hasa-hasa.

Environmental Concerns

The slash and burn activity of forest occupants that surround the river is damaging the forest cover of the area, thus depleting the flora and fauna that serve as the watershed area for the river. The area is likewise adjacent to quarrying operations that have made it prone to soil erosions that further degrade the area, which is further aggravated by the sand and gravel extraction from the river itself that leads to the deterioration of its coastal and marine resources.
