| Compared to the Ibaloi Ethnic Tribe Population from the past years in Loakan, today the land is now dominated by various tribes due to some purposes. At present,the population of two barangays at the central part of the old Loakan, i.e. the Loakan Proper and the Loakan- Liwanag Barangays is approximately ½ Ibaloi and ½ of other ethnolinguistic groups (Iloco, Pangasinan, Bontoc, etc.) | |||||||

Loakan from the 1500’s to 1700’s was known first as an Ygolote
territory, then as an Igorot settlement, even as other places north of
Pangasinan were called by the Spaniards. But to the descendants of its known
early settlers, namely Baruy, son of Amdikit of Chuyo, and Sa’bot of Loacan, it
was Ibaloi Teritory. Even the descendants of a 1700th settler of the place (the
same descendants of Baruy and Sa’bot) call themselves Ibalois. Certainly, a descendant of an 1800 migrant to the place who still live
in the area say their ancestors Kalias spoke Ibaloi, even as she and her fellow
descendants still do. And fo a quite a while, it remained an Ibaloi Teritory where the only
other people coming in and joining early settlers and their descendants were
Ibalois from other places who came to work and who got to marry the daughters
of the land. With the opening in the 1930’s of the Demonstration Mines at the
western side of that section no occupied by the Philippine At the same period that the Demonstration Mines opened, there were also

Ilocos and Pangasinan who came to work decided to settle in the place. At present,the population of two barangays at the central part of the

Pangasinan, Bontoc, etc.) The 1980’s gas brought about an influx of migrants who came to work at
the Export Processing Zone who got married I n Loakan) and eventually settled
in the area. Some also came to work and brought their families into place. There are also others who bought lands in the area because of its
prospects. Hence the big increase of migrants into the area during the past ten
years compared to the trickle that flowed from the 1930’s. | |||||||
