Community profile: MAINIT

Mainit is one of the earliest
village-settlements in the central cordillera identified by the Spanish
military expeditions in the 16th century as mentioned in the book of
historian Dr. William henry scott “the discovery of the igorots”. Now it one of the barangays of Bontoc, the
capital town of Mountain Province in the region of CAR. It is known that the first mainit settlers were
mixtures of people from Abra, Sadanga,Fidelisan,Bontoc & Maligcong.

Barangay mainit is known for its hot
springs.it is a gold-rich village where small-scale mining & thus gold
panning became a practice by the villagers. The presence of several hot springs
in the area attributed the name “MAINIT” which means hot in lowland
terms.
