Poverty was not a hindrance for Nanay Ansing to achieve her goals in life. In the midst of poverty she went to school like the other children. Her parents also supported her. Nanay Ansing earned her elementary education in Mambajao Central School. Her school was far from her house. There was no other means to go to school except to walk everyday. Walking was not a big deal for her because she was used to it. On the other hand Nanay Ansing told us that there were instances that after a long walk from school she would only eat boiled banana or root crops like camote and cassava for her lunch go back to school again. When she was in high school in Camiguin Institute, it was the toughest time of her parents. Her parents had to double their efforts to support her and her brother financially. Thanks God, she had made it through. She was able to graduate and receive a diploma.
A High School Graduate Ma'am
Nanay Ansing did not spend another four years to finish a college education and practice a profession. She was one of the lucky high school graduates who was given the opportunity to serve as a teacher. This was because she was proficient in English and had shown the potentials of a teacher.
