Coron is one of the four municipalities in the Calamian Group  of Island and is the northernmost municipality of Palawan. It is located halfway between Manila and the provincial Capital of Palawan, the City of Puerto Princesa. It is the first port of call for ships plying from Manila and it is therefore the northern gateway to the province of Palawan.

Coron is characterized by rugged terrain, rolling hills and mountain ranges running in almost all directions and extended along the seashore. Plains are made up of deep, wide valleys and wide plateaus. Rivers are small and shallow and are therefore not fitted for navigation, coastlines are very irregular, but serve as good harbors and refuge for ships and boats during bad weather.

Agriculture in the municipality is light and is not successful as that of other provinces probably due to soil type and hot climate. Agriculture products are marketed locally. Outside markets are Manila, Mindoro, Southern Palawan and Batangas though local traders.

Extreme fishing industry had been the livelihood of the Coronians. It ranges from the native fishing ways of the Tagbanuas to the highly technical live fish industry of businessman and investors.

Tourism industry in the municipality is currently the booming economic trend which results to massive public and private infrastructure projects.

Regular water and air transportations connect Coron to Manila, Mindoro, Batangas, Puerto Princesa and nearby municipalities including Culion, El-Nido and Taytay.

Coron is connected to the other parts of the province, the country and the world through telecommunication facilities which include mobile telephone systems and the internet.
