“PULOS: The Functions of MATH in Oponganons Way of Life”

This is the official entry of Science and Technology Education Center High School for the Doon Po Sa Amin Learning Challenge, a project where teachers and students for Smart Schools Program (SSP) partner schools are encouraged to use computer and Internet technologies to generate web-based information and educational materials about their respective communities.

This focus study is entitled Pulos: The Functions of Math in Oponganons Way of Life that answers the problems in Mathematics education which includes:

•  low motivation to learn math,

•  transfer of problem solving skills to real life situations, and

•  how intelligent Oponganon Students are

These are our solutions:

POKUS is an in-house project that would invite the out-of-school youth to experience real mathematics with applications and be indulged with the fun and more evocative way of learning it. We believe that something that is done pleasurably and meaningfully would yield greater results and maximum retention. This project aims to bring back the out-of-school youth for the school year 2009-2010 by proving to them that mathematics is easy, fun and realistically helpful.
