Lake Sebu as Tourist spot destination, increased the number of Resort Establishments near the lake shore. As one of the main source of livelihood, lakes of Lake Sebu became the site for raising Tilapia by the Fish Cage Operators. Tilapia delicacies also became one of the tourist choice. To cater its demand and supply, commercial feeds have been used. But, the increasing number of Fish cages, as well as interactions of inhabitants around the lake shore brought about an increased in the water nutrients of lakes.
To which, it threaten the ecological balance of the lakes as manifested by the abundant growth of water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes)and water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) which deoxygenate the water causing slow growth of Tilapia and fish kills. A problem that until now calls an urgent intervention for saving the lakes of Lake Sebu.
Objectives
To improve the current water quality condition of Lake Sebu through Water Waste Management Strategic Plan 2008 ? 2013.
Limitation of Study
The respondents of this study were the settlers inhabiting around the lakeshore and Fish cage operators.
Significance of Study
Any output that maybe gained out of this research will serve as an eye-opener to the people of Lake Sebu to value the importance of ecological balance of the 3 lakes for mankind and economic survival. In such a way, they can share their contributions in preserving, protecting, and rehabilitating Lake Sebu despite of the influx of tourism as source of livelihood of the constituents.
