INTERVIEW

It has been a very alarming case for the City Health that the population had increased to almost 10 percent of the population last year. Dr. Berame revealed that this could be a hindrance in obtaining a good and sound lifestyle. Currently, the office is now working on the different programs to overcome the possible happenings in the future.

Fortunately, Mayor Arturo O. Radaza had been very supportive on the different nutrition programs. One of such is the BEMOC (Basic Emergency Obstetric Care). BEMOC takes care of the pregnant women and monitors their health.

The Head Officer also mentioned the prevaling diseases in the city. First in the list are the acute respiratory diseases. These are diseases of the respiratory as what is implied on the name itself. These include diseases of the lung , pleural cavity , bronchial tubes, trachea , upper respiratory tract and of the nerves and muscles of breathing . Respiratory diseases range from mild and self-limiting such as the common cold to life-threatening such as bacterial pneumonia or pulmonary embolism . They are a common and important cause of illness and death. Next on the list is the hypertension. Hypertension , also referred to as high blood pressure , HTN or HPN , is a medical condition in which the blood pressure is chronically elevated. In current usage, the word "hypertenion" without a qualifier normally refers to arterial hypertension.

Dr. Berame also stressed that some diseases are mostly acquired by the people's lifestyle.

But of all the predominating illnesses, the City Health is still very proud of what it has done for the last two years. The city got the "Green Banner" award. Green Banner award was given to those city whose nutrition programs and action plans are very well established. The city had this award for the last two years. On the other hand, the city also bagged the "Symptoms-Sigla" award. In the entire Philippines, the Opon and the Pasay City got the grant.

This simply means that Lapu-Lapu City is not just fully preoccupied with all the prevailing diseases, but also enjoying the fact that all its hardwork are worth it.

As said by Dr. Berame, the City can be now called an "A1 Community".
