MEPZ: THE ORIGIN

The Mactan Export Processing Zone I, one of the most successful zones in the Philippines , has proved beyond doubt the viability of the Mactan-Cebu area. Now, MEPZ 2 offers new locators the same opportunity to capitalize on these new conditions. The project is an inspiring example of the growing number of successful partnerships between the Government and the private sector in the Philippines . ACOLand, a member of the highly successful Aboitiz group of companies, is developing and operating the zone under the Build-Operate-Transfer scheme (BOT) for the landowner, Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) The zone is regulated by a government body, the Philippine Economic Zone Authority.

Today, in the new millennium, the physical appearance of Lapu-lapu City is far different from what it was thirty years ago. World class beach hotels dot its shorelines. Modern subdivisions occupy land areas that were once rocky surfaces that would mercilessly disfigure any pair of shoes in just ten minutes of walking. The city is host to the Mactan Export Processing Zone, which turned Lapu-lapu City into a destination of several hundreds of commuters from the island and the mainland who work in factories inside the Zone.
